Description
WELDER, SUITCASE, ARMY DRAWING 11B258000 -- The requirements for the welder have changed and the following is information is provide for this solicitation: Physical Characteristics. The arc welding power source shall be hand-portable and shall be totally e nclosed in impact-resistant, flame-retardant, non-conductive case. All operating controls and indicators shall be mounted in a single vertical panel at one end of the case. The arc welding power source shall fit within the envelope of a designated storage space on existing Army truck-mounted Contact Maintenance Shop Equipment. The maximum storage space available for the arc welding power source is 17.00 inches high by 9.50 inches wide by 20.00 inches long. Because the dimensions cited are the maximum availa ble, measurement of the arc welding power source envelope includes the carrying handle, knobs, switches, dials, connectors, and other features that protrude from the case, including the minimum recommended bend radius of the power cord, which will be conne cted to the arc welding power source while it is stored in the vehicle. The arc welding power source shall not weigh more than 100 pounds. Performance. The arc welding power source shall be an integrated unit providing both Constant Current (CC) control fo r Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW), and Constant Voltage (CV) control for Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW) and self-shielded Flux Cored Arc Welding (FCAW). The operating mode shall be switch-selectable, and the control panel shall also provide at least a pow er on indicator, a thermal overload indicator, variable control(s) for output voltage and current, and display(s) of output voltage and amperage. The arc welding power source shall be capable of providing CC output for SMAW of at least 150 Amps at 25 Vo lts on a 60% duty cycle (six minutes out of ten) in air temperatures up to 110 degrees F. The arc welding power source shall operate on standard 208 Volt, 3 phase, 60 Hz AC. The AC input required for a CC output of 150 Amps at 25 volts shall not exceed 16 amps. The maximum open circuit voltage for CC welding shall be at least 60 VDC. The voltage range in CV mode shall be at least 12 to 28. The arc welding power source shall incorporate a re-settable automatic power cut-off to prevent damage from thermal ove rload. WIRE FEEDER: Physical Characteristics. The wire feeder shall be hand-portable and totally enclosed in an impact-resistant, flame-retardant, non-conductive case. The wire feeder shall fit within the envelope of a designated storage space on existing Army truck-mounted Contact Maintenance Shop Equipment. The maximum storage space available for the wire feeder is 17.00 inches high by 9.50 inches wide by 24.00 inches long. It shall be equipped with an internal wire spool mount capable of holding wire spo ols up to 12 inches in diameter weighing up to 30 lbs. The wire feeder, minus wire spool, shall not weigh more than 40 pounds. The wire feeder shall have a TWECO. style female connector for a MIG gun. Performance. The wire feeder shall operate on open-circ uit and arc voltage in the range of 15 to 60 volts or more from a separate arc welding power source. The wire feeder shall be capable of operating in a constant wire feed speed mode when used with CV power sources, and shall contain a switch-selectable cir cuit to permit operation in a voltage sensing wire feed speed mode when used with CC power sources. The wire feeder shall be capable of feeding wire at speeds over a range of at least 50 to 450 inches per minute, though the actual speed range while in use may be limited by the arc voltage supplied. The wire feeder shall suitable for performing both GMAW of aluminum and FCAW of steel with wire sizes of .035 inch and .045 inch. Drive roll kits appropriate for each size and type of wire, including the appropri ate inlet guides, shall be supplied along with the wire feeder as separately packaged and identified kits. At the minimum, the wire feeder shall have its own On /Off power switch, a CC/CV selector switch, a variable wire feed speed control, voltage and wire feed speed displays, a purge switch, a solenoid-operated valve to control gas flow, and a secondary contactor to allow the welding wire to be electrically cold until the operator is ready to weld. The wire feeder must be fully operational at the time of delivery; any optional items required to fulfill these requirements must be installed before delivery to the Government.
