Description

NOI: December 7, 2001 Proposals Due: February 1, 2002 The NASA Research Announcement (NRA) 01-OSS-01, entitled "Research Opportunities in Space Science (ROSS) -- 2001" is amended to include a new program element A.5.5 entitled "Near Earth Asteroid Rendezvous (NEAR) Data Analysis." The objectives of this new program are to support research relevant to the analysis and interpretation of data (i) from the 1997 encounter of the NEAR Shoemaker spacecraft with asteroid 253 Mathilde, (ii) from the 1998 encounter with asteroid 433 Eros, and (iii) from the prime mission orbit around 433 Eros during 2000-2001. Investigations proposed to NDAP must enhance the science return from NEAR mission and in addition to the analysis of NEAR data may involve modeling studies, theoretical studies, laboratory studies, or correlative analyses of asteroid data from other missions (e.g., Galileo) or from ground-based observations.
