- Description
- A Novel Architecture for the Computerized Patient Record Based on Modeling Physiology -- -- -- The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), through the National Technology Transfer Center (NTTC), is seeking a commercial partner to further develop this technology through a Cooperative Research and Development Agreement (CRADA). -- -- -- -- This technology is a model database architecture for clinical information systems aimed at decision support in the clinical setting. It is based on the functional concepts of cell biology and human physiology. It uses object-oriented programming methods, intelligent-agent tools and extensive analysis to embody a cell-and-organ based model of human physiology within the records database. Each record becomes a specialized model of the patient's medical state and, on its basis, complex interactions between 1) physiological and medical conditions and 2) therapies (or drug interactions) may be modeled. The concept is fully developed with two physiological data models (circulatory and cardio-pulmonary systems) and one fully developed expert system for preventative medicine.
