Description
The University of California, which operates the Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) under contract to the Department of Energy solicits interest from companies to obtain exclusive or nonexclusive license rights to commercialize, manufacture and market LANL's High Temperature Superconducting Thick Film Tape (S-94,726) patent pending technology, hereinafter referred to as the "Technology." In addition, the University would also be receptive to entering into Cooperative Research and Development Agreement (CRADA) or other sponsored research arrangement with licensee(s) to further develop the Technology. This Technology concerns the fabrication of high temperature superconducting (HTS) tapes. The present invention solves the problem of making high quality HTS material on a flexible metal platform in long lengths using a thin (~10 nm) template material (magnesium oxide-MgO). Previous inventions used cubic zirconia (YSZ) as the template material. Both templates are formed using ion-beam assisted deposition (IBAD) techniques. The YSZ template is formed at thicknesses, which are approximately 100 times greater than that of the MgO template. Thus, if the HTS properties on either template are of equal quality, the later material is more attractive for economic commercialization purposes. LANL is interested in licensing the Technology to organizations on either an exclusive field of use or nonexclusive basis, depending on the facts and circumstances of the statement of intent submitted and license negotiations. Interested organizations must demonstrate prior professional experience in the fields of superconductivity technology, complex device manufacturing, and technology product marketing. Any organization interested in licensing the above mentioned Technology must respond with a statement of intent. The statement of intent shall be due close of business November 26, 2001. Following the execution of a Nondisclosure Agreement, respondents will be provided with technical data that will enable them to evaluate the technology. Respondents that wish to enter into negotiations for a commercial license will be required to submit a comprehensive business plan or product commercialization plan prior to licensee(s) selection and negotiations. Please send letters of interest to the attention of John Russell, Los Alamos National Laboratory, Industrial Business Development Program Office, Mail Stop C334, Los Alamos, New Mexico 87545; phone [505-665-3941]; fax [505-665-0154]; or email [jrussell@lanl.gov].
