Description
The U.S. Army Tank-Automotive and Armaments Command, Armament Research, Development and Engineering Center (TACOM-ARDEC), Picatinny Arsenal, New Jersey is conducting a market survey of industry to identify sources that are capable of supplying 120 mm mortar armament systems that could be available by 31 DEC 2002; or preferably, currently available systems that are close to the requirements described herein or can be readily adapted, and could be available by 31 DEC 2002. The armament system, which will be the main armament on a turreted self-propelled platform, shall be comprised of, but not limited to, a 120 mm breech loaded cannon, a gun mount, a recoil system, and be compatible with automated or semi-automated breech loading, capable of being fired over an elevation range of 0 to 85 degrees. The armament system must be capable of firing all existing fielded U.S. 120 mm mortar cartridges to a maximum range of 8,400 meters, and be able to fire future 120 mm U.S. cartridges, including the XM935 Precision Guided Mortar Munition (PGMM) and the XM984 Dual Purpose Improved Conventional Munition (DPICM). The armament system must also be adaptable to automated aiming and pointing, loading, and firing processes. The optimal recoil system should limit recoil forces to a maximum trunnion force of 25,000 lb and limit recoil travel to 14 inches under worst-case environmental conditions. Other desired subsystems that can be included are an automated projectile magazine and fire control system to work in conjunction with the mortar armament system. The response must include documentation such as detailed interface control drawings, 3-D CAD models, specification sheets, test results, and rough order of magnitude (ROM) pricing and availability for delivery of six (6) units. The deadline for response is 30 NOV 2001. This market survey is for planning purposes only and shall not be construed as a request for proposal or as an obligation on the part of the government. The government does not intend to award a contract on the basis of this market survey or otherwise pay for information solicited. The government will utilize the information provided for planning purposes only.
