- Description
- CCOL is conducting a survey to identify commercialization partners to MARKET, DISTRIBUTE, and/or EMBED the EMSL Publisher (Version 2.0) Java software that was developed for the Department of Energy. Types of partners include VARS (resellers), systems integration firms, application developers, and other licensees or marketing agents. Binary and source code are available. || Written in Java, the EMSL Publisher is a word processor that runs entirely on standard Netscape Navigator or Internet Explorer Web browsers. There are three components of the Publisher software: Publisher itself, Viewer Applet, and Text Engine. || Publisher -- It enables documents to be written, edited and exchanged freely among a large number of users on different platforms including Windows, MacOS and UNIX; this allows for local or remote collaboration. In addition to exchanging Publisher documents, this software also imports and exports to plain text, to Rich Text Format (RTF) such as Word or WordPerfect, and to HTML. The functionality of this word processor includes the importing of Java Beans as plug-in modules to perform specific tasks for text and images. Its architecture enables any Java Bean to be added into a document, allowing extensive customization for a specific task. || Viewer Applet (Viewer) -- This compact applet displays formatted rich-text files on a Web page, in all cases presenting the documents in their original format and layout rather than in the limiting style of HTML. In addition, the same Java Beans contained in Publisher documents will be accessible inside the Viewer applet, thereby enabling truly multimedia documents to be placed directly on the Web, with no plug-ins required. A company could post a text or RTF document directly on its Web site, rather than having to rewrite the document in HTML. This applet can run independently of the Publisher word processor. || EMSL Publisher Text Engine -- This Java Bean is written in Java JDK 1.1, requires no additional class or libraries, and has a size of only 200 KB. Included with the text engine are the basic import and export filters for plain text, RTF, HTML and the Publisher format, plus the ability to add in other filters as they become available. The text engine can be readily customized to specific word processing applications by Java software development companies. || For more detail and a demo of the EMSL Publisher application suite, visit the WWW.PNNL-SOFTWARE.COM/PUBLISHER/ Additional information may be requested via info@pnnl-software.com Binary and/or source code is available for licensing. Qualified firms interested in commercializing this software should respond in writing, emailed, postmarked or faxed no later than January 12th, 2002.
