P 0019(20)0, PCEMS 238H, Clay County -- Vermillion and Newcastle, NE Bridge over Missouri River, including grading and interim surfacing, will be ready for the January 19, 2000 Bid Letting. A new 748.380m (2,455 ft) long continuous composite girder bridge will be built across the Missouri River near Vermillion, SD. The primary foundation type for this structure will be drilled shafts. Pre-approval of drilled shaft subcontractors will be required prior to the bid letting. A drilled shaft subcontractor meeting will be held at the North Sioux City Community Center, 205 Sodrac Drive, North Sioux City, SD at 10 AM on October 19, 1999. The purpose of the meeting will be to: 1. Provide drilled shaft subcontractors with an opportunity to view outcrops which are representative of the subsurface material at the project site and review boring logs, cores and other records from the subsurface investigation. 2. Provide information regarding drilled shaft subcontractor pre-approval requirements and answer questions. Attendance at the above meeting is a mandatory part of the pre-approval requirements. Drilled shaft subcontractors who do not attend the above meeting will be considered ineligible for pre-approval on this project. Substructure units will consist of seven 3050 mm (10 ft) diameter drilled shafts and eight (6 ft) diameter drilled shafts. Depth of drilled shaft excavation will be approximately 26 m (85 ft) and total volume of drilled shaft excavation is estimated to be approximately 1,580 cu m(2,067 cu.yd) Approximately five of the drilled shafts will be within the ordinary high water channel on the Missouri River. After initial discussion in North Sioux City, the meeting wil break for lunch and then reconvene on the Nebraska side of the Missouri River to view and discuss outcrops and to view the project site. Drilled shaft subcontractors will need to provide their own ground transportation. Drillled shaft subcontractor pre-approval requirement will be available on October 4, 1999 and can be obtained from the SDDOT Project Development Office, 605-773-3268. Deadline for submittal of completed pre-approval documents is November 1, 1999. Drilled shaft subcontractors who are determined to meet the pre-approval requirements will appear on a list of approved drilled shaft subcontractors which will appear in the bid proposal forms.
